Craig Ferguson accepts "Music Festival of the Year" award at 26th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry AwardsLast Saturday evening at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the international concert industry did something they have never done before: they awarded the "Music Festival of the Year" to a bluegrass festival -- Telluride Bluegrass! This marks the first time in the Pollstar Awards' 26-year history that a "Colorado" festival or a "bluegrass" festival has received this prestigious honor. Needless to say, we're humbled. On behalf of the community of artists, staff, volunteers, and Festivarians who have joined together to create festival magic for more than four decades, we're profoundly grateful.

Meanwhile, here in Lyons the snowstorms are keeping us huddled indoors -- listening to stellar new Punch Brothers and Rhiannon Giddens albums, co-producing a Pretty Lights show in Telluride, preparing for the return of the Wildflower Concert Series, and accumulating screenfulls of exciting news we can't wait to share.

-- 25th Annual Folks Festival --The journey toward the 25th Annual Rocky Mtn Folks Festival (August 14-16) begins today, as we share the initial lineup for our "summit on the song," bringing together songwriters from around the musical and geographic world.

• Sufjan Stevens • Jason Isbell • Kasey Chambers • Richard Thompson • The Wood Brothers • Martin Sexton • Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers • Peter Yarrow • The Waifs • Shane Koyczan & the Short Story Long • Mary Gauthier • Connor Garvey • Songwriter Showcase • many more to be announced...

Kasey Chambers at the 2012 Folks Festival (photo: Benko Photographics)This year's lineup welcomes some of the world's most important songwriters, including the artist behind Paste Magazine's Album of the Decade, the winner of top artist / album / song at the 2014 Americana Music Awards, and one of the true icons of American folk music. We've also invited back many of the seminal artists who have inspired us to laugh, dance, sing, and cry together over the past 25 years.

Folks Festival stage (photo: Benko Photographics)It's not too early to make your plans for songs, stories, and sunshine along the St. Vrain River in Lyons this August. Three-day passes and camping are available now at or 800-624-2422. All Folks Fest tickets are fully refundable thru May 1. (Our limited allotment of early discount tickets sold-out earlier than ever before.)

As we anticipate many more campers for this historic 25th annual festival, we've added a third Folks Fest campground across the street from the Ranch at River Bend. A portion of this campground will be designated as "family camping" with longer quiet hours.

The preliminary list of instructors includes: Peter Yarrow, Mary Gauthier, Joe Craven, and many more. Reserve one of the last few spots now at or 800-624-2422.

We're busily confirming more artists for the 25th Annual Folks Fest. Watch for more lineup announcements in the coming weeks, leading up to the announcement of the single-day lineup and single-day tickets later this Spring.

-- Wildflower Concerts --
Wildflower Pavilion (photo: Art Heffron)When the 2013 flood devastated the Planet Bluegrass Ranch, we promised to rebuild better than ever. On March 27 we'll make good on the final part of that promise, as we reopen the Wildflower Concert Series. With new sliding seasonal doors, heaters, permanent bar areas, and state-of-the-art sound and lights, the completely rebuilt Wildflower Pavilion offers a uniquely "Planet Bluegrass" approach to the indoor concert experience -- with a river and bonfire right outside the doors.

We'll christen the new Wildflower this Spring with whole-hearted singer-songwriters (Ellis & Justin Roth), progressive bluegrass (Head for the Hills, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, The Lil' Smokies, Front Country), and a special CD release party with The Railsplitters. Tickets are onsale now for these Friday night shows at or 800-624-2422. Join the Wildflower e-newsletter for the latest updates on these shows.

-- Other News --
Yonder Mtn String Band Though we're all still filled with joyous memories of last September's Celebration on the Ranch, Yonder Mountain String Band's Kinfolk Celebration won't be returning to Lyons this summer. Instead, Yonder and their Kinfolk will be celebrating a new album by throwing a hometown party at Red Rocks Amphitheatre! Joined by Greensky Bluegrass and Fruition, Friday, August 21 is going to be an epic night of music. Tickets go onsale tomorrow morning, Saturday, February 28 at 10am MST.

That's it for now. But watch for several important emails from us in the next few weeks, including the single-day lineup for Telluride Bluegrass.

With love,
The Folks on Planet Bluegrass
